GeoGuard Is The iPhone Solution PA Bettors Were Waiting For

GeoGuard allows players to access browser-based games

Online gambling has finally arrived on the iPhone.

The FanDuel app went live this week, ready to download from the app store. And last week, SugarHouse’s online casino launched with a supported featured that gave users access via their Apple devices.

In June, Apple changed its app store policies and required apps that utilize monetary transactions to be written in code native to the iOS system. That change kept many of the new online betting apps from getting listed in the app store.

Until last week.

The GeoGuard app solved SugarHouse’s iPhone problems. The GeoGuard Location Validator, produced by GeoComply, allows users to verify their location, in this instance in the state of Pennsylvania. Once the app geolocates, players are granted access to the browser-based versions of the online casino and sportsbook sites.

BetRivers, which along with SugarHouse is owned by Rush Street Interactive, began using the GeoGuard service a few hours after SugarHouse did.

GeoComply has extensive sports betting footprint

According to its website, GeoComply and its affiliated products have been heavily involved in the growth of online sports betting. Last year, GeoComply services helped DraftKings launch as the first online sportsbook in New Jersey. GeoComply also works with the following NJ companies:

  • Rush Street
  • FanDuel
  • MGM
  • William Hill
  • BetStars

In total, GeoComply is in use in 42 different states, which should give Pennsylvanians comfort and confidence in using the app.

FanDuel and Rush Street timed it right

Both FanDuel and the Rush Street Gaming outfits (SugarHouse, Rivers Pittsburgh) were wise to launch their online offerings before football season starts. In New Jersey, which is roughly a year ahead of Pennsylvania in online sports betting, digital wagers typically account for about 80% of the overall handle.

Put simply; players prefer the ease of online betting over a trip to a retail sportsbook.

Football season should produce record numbers in PA

With those online offerings now live in Pennsylvania, expect them to flourish as football season kicks off. NFL preseason games start Aug. 1. College football games start Aug. 24.

Outside of the NCAA’s men’s basketball tournament, football season is usually the busiest time of year for sportsbooks. It’s logical to expect that Pennsylvania will hit record numbers this fall with its expansion of retail and online sportsbooks.

And thanks to GeoGuard, all that action is available on the iPhone, too.
